Tip #5
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Today’s tip pays homage to one of my favorite marketing projects—posed by my first favorite manager of all time.
That was wayyyy back when I used to work at MetLife, in Marketing and Communications, for their Retirement & Savings Group.
- Suzanne asked me to organize twice-yearly Team Meetings.
- The goal was to get our group of 10 independent and creative Communications Managers together.
- Every six months, we would connect, learn from each other, and have fun.
- After chatting with each person a bit about what they would like to experience, I came up with a theme of “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.”
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
At the event, each team member would share the best thing that happened to them over the past six months, the worst thing, and also the most hideous piece of marketing communications they could find.
The Good
The “Good” stories would inspire. Everyone benefits from individual wins.
The Bad
The “Bad” ones would ensure that none of the other team members would make the same mistakes again.
The Ugly
The “Ugly” pieces would show us what doesn’t work…or at least give us all a laugh.
One Simple Action Item:
Ask yourself, “ What’s one “good” or “bad” thing that’s recently happened to me that could help a colleague?”
